Language Learning Strategies Employed by Non-English Majors at Nong Lam University, Vietnam

Learning strategies have a strong effect on students’ success in foreign language learning. In fact, they are considered tools for active and self-directed engagement, which is vital developing communicative competence. Language learning also enable students to take responsibility their own progress. This study was carried out identify the preferred most frequently employed by non-English major at Nong Lam University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The research conducted with 725 undergraduate descriptive quantitative method. data collected using Vietnamese questionnaire adapted from Strategy Inventory (SILL) originally developed Oxford (1990). Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0 software used analyze obtained questionnaire. findings revealed that majors medium level of frequency. They didn’t equally use all 6 learning, probably impeded progress learners were metacognitive strategies, followed memory, affective, cognitive compensation social as least ones. Pedagogical recommendations lecturers discussed paper.
